photos shows one of the houses that was hit by arson.  It’s hard to tell what used to originally be part of the house and what Tyree has added since the attack.  Either way, it hasn’t deterred his Detroiter who grew up on what is now the infamous Heidelberg Street, and seeing much of the abandonment and neglect for his childhood block, he started taking “trash” and paint and making sculpture art as a means of “protest” or “demonstration”.  It’s taken some years for the project to be more formerly recognized by Detroit, but it’s now officially protected as an intellectual property and a part of the city’s identity.</p> <p>As an artist, an activist, or just someone who admires the “weird”, you have to see this project.  Seeing photos will not give you any idea of how to feel about it, you have to be there in person to truly appreciate it (or find out you hate it, there is no right or wrong answer which is the point).</p> <p>More can be found on the website: <a ARCH498 Fourth World Theory, which focuses on a city in America that is suffering from acute inner city poverty, institutional prejudices, and widespread abandonment (to name a few of the symptoms).  Coincidentally, we studied Detroit and as part of the class curriculum we took a day-and-a-half field trip to meet with activist groups and visit the area.</p> <p>Of course, we had to visit the Eastern Market, but we didn’t spend much time there since we were running late to meet with Grace Lee Boggs, one of the coolest ladies ever.  If you ever think a 98-year young woman isn’t still sharp or doesn’t have the ability to continue the kind of activism that this woman does today, you need to shut up.  JUST SHUT UP.  RIGHT watching Detropia, this seemed like such a neat place to explore.  But if it were open to anybody, it would probably have faced so much destruction by squatters and arsonists.  Tours would be great,
